You can, of course, turn one of the engines off. Aether came first, so it's reasonable to assume there were things learned while implementing Aether that were applied to B2. But just look at the controls in Aether compared to B2. Aether remains the deeper of the two, and I would say that depth gives it a greater capability for subtlety.

Nothing touches Aether, Breeze, B2, and Precedence for the discerning ear when it comes to reverb. Precedence is a spatial positioning plugin that works with Breeze to place instruments in a virtual room. It is amazing. Aether, Breeze, and B2 are algorithmic reverbs that best the convolution reverbs out there by light-years.

Valhalla VS 2C-Audio - Which Reverb? - Gearspace.com
https://gearspace.com/board/electronic-music-instruments-and-electronic-music-production/781366-valhalla-vs-2c-audio-reverb.html
Breeze is the best reverb when it comes to first reflections. I prefer it to B2 and Aether. If you wanna do drum rooms, Breeze is the ticket. It's rooms and ambience is the most realistic I have heard, among Lexicon PCM, Aether, Valhalla Room, TSAR, and others. Valhalla Room is cool for synths and pads. But Uebermod is even cooler for long stuff.
LiquidSonics vs 2CAudio | VI-CONTROL
https://vi-control.net/community/threads/liquidsonics-vs-2caudio.102273/
Cinematic Rooms is now my main reverb, but all other types of positioning and wetting is 2CAudio for me. For unconventional reverbs the B2 reverb is just amazing. Also the hall & room reverbs in B2 are superb. It's only too CPU heavy(for me) to use in large projects. While Breeze and Precedence have almost no CPU burden whatsoever.
