You can use the zone 2 pre-out to feed an additional amplifier and connect all the zone 2 speakers to it. In that case, the receiver doesn't power the zone and you can retain 7.1 in the main zone. If the receiver is powering zone 2, you can only have 5.1 in the main zone when zone 2 is active.

For 5.1 audio in main zone and 2.0 in zone2 a two zone receiver is required. Unless zone2 can output an independent source the main zone will be stereo just like zone2. Yamaha calls this party mode. This yamaha 7065 will do 5.1 in main zone and output stereo music from analog, tuner, network, usb and airplay(not digital) to zone2 at the same time.
