An adapter can take the DVI standard and translate to HDMI, but passing audio through depends on how the DVI connector is setup outside the spec to provide the audio pth. Worse, the reference GT board HAS the SPDIF passthru on the PC board, but noone so far has populated the components to activate the circuit.

They cannot do audio through HDMI without some kind of cable supplying the audio to the graphics card. The 8800gt, as i said before, cannot do audio through HDMI, but ati's can without any cables. And if anyone read my posts i explained it all there... DVi to HDMI adapters should work for both audio and video.
