I'm running Windows XP with the following: nVidia nForce 680i LT SLI motherboard GeForce 8800GT video card Intel Core 2 Quad Q6700 (2.66GHz) Nvidia posted a hotfix but it was for Vista (Windows Vista 32-bit DLP Hotfix) , not XP, so it is no use to me. I have not found a hotfix for XP on the Nvidia site.

edit: some G92 cards dont work either, my first gen 8800GT wont work with SPDIF audio, it was a known bug at the time of launch fixed with 9800GT's. edit 2: and you definitely need an DVI to HDMI adaptor, cant use straight DVI. not all adaptors will pass audio either, so try more than one. Not true, there's tons of info on the net about 8800 gt, gts's and many other nvidia cards (lower / higher) with audio over DVI - they use the extra DVI pins to transfer the audio and an S/PDIFf connectection to the video card to deliver the audio to it from soundcard / motherboard.

An adapter can take the DVI standard and translate to HDMI, but passing audio through depends on how the DVI connector is setup outside the spec to provide the audio pth. Worse, the reference GT board HAS the SPDIF passthru on the PC board, but noone so far has populated the components to activate the circuit.

I think the key line is "Just like the rest of GeForce 8 line-up, the 8800GT is going to get DVI Audio". If it's "just like" that means SPDIF loopback. Don't see any mention of an audio chip. Not that this is necessarily a bad thing. Both solutions (NVIDIA & ATI) support the same audio formats anyway.
