My young son enjoys messing around with the AC97 Audio Configuration - which he accesses from the 'Sound Effect' icon on the toolbar. On his own computer (also using XP) the default playback device is Realtek AC97 Audio but he doesn't have an icon to access the audio configuration window.

Upgrading from 5.6.2 to 5.7.7 and the AXP never went past the audio hardware initialization (Realtek AC97) upon start-up. It had been working pretty smoothly before. When Avid reaches 'Initialize audio' in the loading screen I get the error message "Exception: Failed to initialize audio hardware".
