Other than the hissing sound from the HDMI audio at startup the Acer Aspire Revo works fine and audio is perfect when playing back movies. One final thing that I have noticed is that the hissing sound doesn't happen if I do a windows restart, it only happens from a cold boot or when waking from sleep mode.

Hi All, I have an Aspire X3990 running Windows 10. Previously it worked fine with sound going through the HDMI however recently the machine developed a fault and I had to perform the Windows 10 Refresh. All drivers are shown to be installed however there is no longer any audio coming through HDMI and Audio icon showing as a red cross.

Make sure and also change the sound configuration in Gnome windows manager sound tool. Go to System, Preferences, Sound, Hardware and change to Digital Stereo (HDMI) Output + Digital Stereo (IEC958) Input. After making all theses changes make sure to reboot. Now I have all the music going through the hdmi cable to my LG monitor.
