[solved] No Sound in Amarok! • KDE Community Forums
https://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?t=78346
This is due to the fact that you are using pulseaudio. It doesn't work well with Phonon and the Xine backend, and there is no reason to use Pulseaudio in KDE in the first place, As KDE doesn't need it, the best would be to remove that and rely on Alsa and Phonon to handle sound, that's how it is intended in KDE anyway, and it works perfectly well.

Done that phonon forgot about hdmi but started to forcibly use digital iec895 output of the card, hence with no sound since I only use analog output. Eventually the problem was pulseaudio. I had to force pulseaudio to use analog output by issuing Code: Select all pacmd set-card-profile output:analog-stereo+input:analog-stereo

For more general sound issues, first check what Phonon backend you are using in Settings -> Configure Amarok -> Playback -> Configure Phonon -> Backend. Consider switching to a different backend; VLC and GStreamer backends should be available from your distribution.
