Aperiodic Membrane. Aperiodic Membrane is one of the latest successful methods in car audio. The membrane material is a resistive element that the woofers play through. The membrane assists the mechanical performance of the woofer improving not only the woofer’s transient response (the control of the woofer) but also the amplifier’s power transfer. It is very noticeable …

There are two APs. One is a box with a restricted vent you are talking about. It lowers the Q of the sealed box by leaking pressure out. The other is using mats or a membrane over the front or rear of a speaker, it raises Q by restricting IB more or less. It was done on subs way back and there is no enclosure used normally, just a frame of some kind to hold the …

That dual 6.5 box was WAY to huge for an "ap" setup. With an aperiodic the enclosure needs only be large enough for the driver to fit in and give at least 1/2" clearance from the back of the driver to the rear wall, as well as the front of the driver MUST remain in a seperate space or compartment as the back or else you will get cancellation.

Quad Cities, IL. Jul 1, 2011. #5. the aperiodic mat is usually sandwiched fiberglass or open cell foam. the thickness vs. area determines tuning. you can tune the Q of the enclosure with the vent. you can also control the fs impedance spike.

Aperiodic loading is a means of fooling a driver into thinking it is in a sealed enclosure of larger volume. The action of the acoustic resistance should not be confused with bass reflex action. By removing the membrane, you have an untuned opening and not a tuned 'port'. Try taking measurements with the opening closed.

The aperiodic enclosure vents the inside of the box to the outside air through a damped ported (a port stuffed with damping material), which is sometimes referred to as an "acoustic resistor" or "resistive port/vent". These Aperiodic ports or vents are sold primarily by Dynaudio, (called "Variovents") and by Scan-Speak (called a "flow resistance vent").
