Thank you. The pavucontrol option helped me achieve HDMI sound output to my TV on Linux Lite 5.6. Note that there, one can also right-click on the sound/speaker (bottom left), select "Properties", and then click on "Run Audio Mixer". From there, follow the instructions above for typing pavucontrol from the terminal (Configuration->Profile, etc.).

As far as I remember, you have to downgrade the kernel too, not just nvidia. You can add a downgrade repo to your /etc/pacman.conf: edit: used it to downgrade to kernel 5.4.2 (+ the rest of core/extra packages of 13th December), now the sound is fine, just as for the rest folks who downgraded the kernel too.

As far as HDMI audio goes, there is no such thing. You are probably confusing "HD Audio", the generic term for the RealTek, Intel, and Conexant onboard audio chips that can be found on motherboards these days, with "HDMI Audio" which isn't even a technical term for anything. If a manual or whatever says "HD Audio works out of the box."
