I wasn't really expecting to pay 800 dollars for two subs and now I'm looking at having to buy a 400 dollar amp as well. Am i going to need to upgrade my alternator? If not is there a way to get around paying the 400 dollars for a new amp, and if not any recommendations on good budget ones ( obviously a 4000 watt amp wont be cheap though).

Save your money and do it right the first time. Those subs won't hold 1200W RMS, I personally choose Kicker amps, damn good if you can foot the bill, I paid $209 for my ZX550.2! But check the RMS rating on the subs, and the RMS ratings on the amp you choose, as has been posted though, you pay for what you get in car audio.
