SPDIF Header on Maximus V boards? - rog.asus.com

Here is the pin-out diagram provided on the Amazon product page for the SPDIF module that I ordered. Looks compatable with the diagram in the MVF user guide. I just need to pay close attention when I plug the module's connector into the board to ensure the connection is correct and not reversed.

I have an Asus P5S-800-VM motherbaord that has an onboard connector for S/PDIF digital output, but doesn't have any optical or coaxial connector on the back panel. The manual says: "The S/PDIF out module is purchased separately." I imagine the module fits into a PCI slot. The Asus website...

I'm looking for ASUS's S/PDIF audio module, the version with all four jacks (Optical In/Out and Coax In/Out). ASUS sold an older revision, called the "SPDIF ALL" but stopped selling it in early 2003. Part number was C1T615-0100 or possibly C1T61A-0100. There is still a picture on the ASUS Taiwan web site (middle picture in the "S/PDIF" section):

HOWTO: Make a coax SPDIF output bracket | AVS Forum

Standard audio interconnect cables will work for transmitting S/PDIF over short distances, but anything over 0.5 metre or so should use 75 ohm cable. The unloaded signal is nominally +/-0.5V and must be terminated with 75 ohms on the receiving end - the resulting signal is +/-0.25V when terminated.
Add S/PDIF Coaxial output to your motherboard simply …

It's just a simple bracket with some wires on a little ASUS S/PDIF board. It comes with some different tips and I had to split it into two connectors - a double that went to the 2 pins for S/PDIF and then a single connector for 5v signal that I connected to the pin on an unused mobo USB hookup.
