The VIA HD Audio Deck is the configuration utility. It lets you set number of speakers, change jack functions, setup an equalizer,etc. Windows 8 didn't have driver for my onboard VIA sound. ASUS only had Windows 7 drivers, they worked in compatibility mode though. VIA had actual Windows 8 drivers so that's what I used.

Hey Mikesc380, okay I've now matched your problems tit for tat, as able to get the VIA drivers and the HD V-deck application to load finally by using the Vista compatibility mode. My problem now is that the S/PDIF doesn't seem to be working at all. I was hoping the latest VIA driver would recognize it but to no avail.
