The bass on the A900X was tight and alive (but not muddy and overpowering), unlike my HD280s which had very weak bass that made music lack a certain kind of fullness. The mids on the A900X is quite rich, making guitar, drums and vocals truly pleasurable to listen to. My HD280s had honky mids that I had to lower using an equalizer.

Listening to music on the A900X is a dream compared to the G4ME ZERO. The bass is more present and the highs are just crisp enough for my taste. Playing games as well is more pleasant with the extra bass and highs the A900X gave me.

The ATH-A900X does a great job of this and compliments the ATH-M50. It's definitely brighter and picks up the midrange exceptionally well. Bass is toned down a bit and that's fine with me. Don't even think about using these cans in stand alone if want to hear them at their full potential. Do yourself s favor and buy a headphone amplifier.

Just to recap the basics of the design: The ATH-AD900X is an open-back headphone, so it offers almost no isolation from external sound, and sound leaks out of the back of the ear pieces. Considering the headphone’s size, its lack of isolation, and the long 3.5-meter, non-detachable cable, it’s unlikely anyone will want to use it on the go.

I've never owned the x900 line before, i've only gone so far as the 700s when i picked up the ATH-AD700 - they sit permanently on my desk at work as my work headphones. The A900X are still $299 at headphones.com.au and addictedtoaudio.com.au and ebay sellers might be flogging fakes.
