I'm sure I've researched this before with the 4850, and you aren't alone. Some say you need the ATI HDMI driver, some say you need a Realtek HDMI driver, which will give you a control panel that you can then set the audio device. I've read that without the Realtek HDMI driver, the option will be greyed out.
