Sadly this is not my only problem I got other problems with this HDMI, but start with this one seems to be the easiest to fix. Other useful info: the HDMI cable is fine I checked it with PS3. With PS3 media playback, I can switched channels and return to it and just fine, so I am really curious why the 4850 HDMI is losing audio.

Ignore bokken, he's just wrong. Having used a 4850 for sound over HDMI, it depends a little on whether you're using XP or Vista. XP will require you to download a separate driver for HDMI audio on the ATI website, it's not part of the XP CCC download. Vista's driver includes this driver.

Right, Hooked up my ATI 4850 to the Onkyo 606 and can only get Stereo sound from the speakers - 5.1 or 7.1 won't show up in the Realtek Audio control panel This is what I've done so far: Plugged HDMI cable and official ATI DVI > HDMI adapter into port 1 on 4850 card. Installed latest Realtek Drivers (2.14) for Vista64.
