Always record DV video with 48k sound. The 32k option is only if you want to audio dub the soundtrack on the original tape at a later date. It doesn't matter whether you are recording in SP or LP the 48k option is available for both. Always set your Camcorder Audio to 16 bit mode.

the recorded audio setting should be on the tape. not sure how it got messed with but maybe the deck was set to only export 16 bit 48k. 12 bit 32k was an option so that 4 audio tracks could be recorded per video. usually the normal stereo audio and a second stereo commentary track. --

I just bought an upconverting DVD player which will also play dvd-a discs. There is an option to set the SPDIF to either "Raw" or "PCM" (default is raw).
