In the audio settings on the BMPCC you have to set the mic-in jack to "line" and "Channel 2 uses Channel 1 Audio". This is critical. Also, lower the input level on the BMPCC to around 50%. Sometimes to streamline my workflow I'll just leave the Sony in record/pause and I'll capture sync'd audio directly to the BMPCC.

The BMPCC4K only has a single Mini-XLR in for direct balanced audio. However it also has a 3.5mm mic in as well. Now, as a main audio input I would most definitely opt to use the XLR input as my primary preference. It is clearly much more robust for day-to-day use than any 3.5mm jack ever will be.
