I expected something exceptional since it is made by AudioControl, but the LCQ-1 was mediocre. It is noisy, which gets irritating to hear between songs or during quiet parts of a song. The output level is not very high, so I ended up keeping the output knobs at almost 90% to get a strong signal back to my amp.

With the LCQ-1 installed, there is an annoying noticeable background hiss that the LCQ-1 makes worse. Noise is most noticeable when you put a CD on pause. I contacted Audio Control and tried everything they suggested but couldn't tune the noise out without significantly retarding the gain on the LCQ-1 (taking down the gain in the whole system).

The LCQ-1 is nice because it gives some equalizing adjustments that a line out converter cannot offer. And with stock head units, some form of equalization is mandatory, unless you just like muddy sounds. It does take some adjustment to get the gains and EQ points dialed in, but that's the beauty of this unit.
