From experience, upgrading coupling caps on most commercial amplifiers has marginal to no effect. Best is to provide more information on the amplifier/circuit. thanks for the tip. looks like its a between the driver and the output tube. Just going to put a cheap Solen in and see if i can hear any difference.

Audiophile Grade Capacitors

The best capacitor types for audio circuits are polystyrene and polypropylene. Polystyrene is the first choice, but are only available in values up to .001 uF. Above that value, polypropylene is the type of choice, with nearly the same qualities of dissipation factor (DF) and dielectric absorption (DA) as polystyrene (these are the two ...

New Coupling Capacitors for Superior Sound! The word is out among audio engineers, but is a little slow getting to the average audiophile; the quality of the capacitors in the output stage of your preamp or the input stage of your amplifier is one of the major determining factors of the sound quality. I have done four upgrades to my amplifier ...

Audio interstage coupling caps - Antique Radio Forums

A lower value can effectively filter out lower bass notes, but not always.
A radio, with an audio response (speaker amp, etc.) able to reproduce down to say 100 Hz. would not be noticeably changed by a coupling cap that had been changed from a corner frequency of 10 Hz to a corner frequency of 25 Hz.
The "corner frequency" (or -3dB point) is where the reactance of the …

Coupling & Bypass Capacitors

2.0 - Coupling Capacitors. The purpose of a coupling cap is to pass the wanted audio (AC) signal, while blocking any DC from preceding stages or source components. DC will cause pots to become noisy (scratching noises when operate), and cause relatively loud clicks when (if) muting relays or similar are used.

My standard replacement policy is as follows: 1. In the Power supply section – Panasonic EB and Nichicon PW. 2. The main power-supply decoupling caps are usually Panasonic TSHA or Nichicon GU snap-ins. 3. In the Audio Path, Nichicon KT, Panasonic FM and sometimes FC, …

Replacing Passive Components to Improve Sound Quality …

Most caps found in audio equipment aren’t used for coupling or power supplies, but for signal shaping. These smaller caps vary in quality as much as electrolytics and can benefit just as much from upgrading. Ceramic disc capacitors were among the first small caps available and they’re still used in a lot of equipment, especially guitar amps.

The best coupling caps in power amp ?? Mundorf, Infinicap

The Jupiter caps are far less expensive to boot. They seem to work better for coupling and output in tube amps and dacs. I have had less experience with Vcaps, but one the one occasion I tried them they did not offer the "meat in the bones" weight and tone of the CAST or Jupiter caps. Crazy resolving however.

It used a Roderstein film cap and they were considered good caps years ago. IIRC the input coupling cap was a 1uF cap and I happened to have a hand full of same rated caps by Auricap. The overall recap job was very successful but the replacement of the input coupling cap with the Auricaps removed a veil on the sound that I was not even aware of.

ecp audio diy: Some Notes on Coupling Capacitors

Choosing voltage is a lot easier. The voltage rating of a cap needs to be higher than any voltages that will be applied. In a solid state circuit, this is almost never a concern as most caps used for coupling are at least 200V, and usually higher (the exception to this is the use of electrolytics like Blackgates which is touched on a bit below.)
