The issue i am wondering about here is why does it list my hardware in device manager and then say " Driver enabled but not started" . When I click on the Sound, Video, and Game Controllers / My Audio Hardware / Properties / I get the message " Driver enabled but not started". for each of my audio device properties

What you must do is go into Start, Control Panel, System, Hardware, Device Manager....and find the Sound area.....DO NOT delete the onboard sound card, but DISABLE the card. That should make the add on card work...and if not, then you need to go into BIOS setup menu and disable it there also.
