The audio engine has been stopped, because the system became unresponsive due to an overload in the audio engine. I restarted the programme but it appeared again and again. It continued after restarting the comp and even with another device (Lexicon Omega). It works fine with the built-in sound card.

Switching devices sometimes will reset the audio engine. It may be a good idea to open a support ticket also.
