The difference between the NFB-2 and NFB-3 are well described on the Audio-GD website. It boils down to lesser quality power supply and capacitors for the NFB-3. Briefly after release the standard digital input IC was changed from WM8416 to WM8805. This newer Wolfson design provides much better jitter rejection.

Audio-GD had some face plates left and used them for the the first production run of the NFB-2. Both USB and Optical where less good than SPDIF Coax. When compared to the D1 the NFB-2 clearly has a better USB receiver. The difference between the two DAC's is bigger using USB then when using the SPDIF input. The NFB-2 does a much better job here.

Solid advice, over the years I've felt the same. Had an Audio-GD NFB 15.32 and when that died and I didn't want to spend half the price to ship it there through UPS or Fedex, and tried sending it through USPS(it came back months later, never made it there), I settled for the M&M Schiit stack.
