All sounds (regardless of source) are choppy and stuttering. Operating system is Windows Vista Home Premium SP2. This is on a Dell Studio 1737 laptop which was bought in January 2009. The problem started occurring a couple of months ago. I have installed all latest drivers and updates but nothing seems to help.

Using Sound Blaster X-Fi card. Was losing sound when windows performed an automatic update. Got sound back after recent update, but was choppy. Bought new card Diamond Xtreme Sound 7.1 Still had choppy sound, even with newest Vista drivers. Upgraded to Win 7 and changed card back to SB X-Fi. Loaded newest drivers from Creative. Still choppy.

But audio is choppy in vista no matter what player I use. It is worse with WMP, but still pretty terrible with winamp and itunes. The only listenable audio is from streaming flash players. Even my windows system sounds are choppy. Any other possibile solutions? Thanks. McDeb, Aug 27, 2007 #4.
