The Audio Note Zero DAC uses a conventional 24bit/96kHz delta-sigma oversampling DAC chip by Burr Brown. Only the Audio Note DACs with the designation "1x" do not use oversampling (that's to say: any of the more expensive AN DACs). All of those non-oversampling AN DACs use the "Analogue Devices AD 1865" which is an 18 bit chip.

The current AN DAC zero (dac 0.1) is an absolute peach of dac with Audio Notes 1x oversampling and no digital filtering makes for a superbly musical experience, I currently have the 2.1 balanced on loan in my system (£4500 worth) and the zero really isn't all that far away in overall performance.
