Do you use audio or linear pots for tone? - Gelvin Guitars

    https://rocksolidpickups.com/2021/11/26/do-you-use-audio-or-linear-pots-for-tone/
If you use a linear pot in the tone you will not hear much of a difference until you get to the very end of the turn once again. You use an “A” for the tone and a “B” for the volume. The people that start bringing up decibels and other nonsense are pseudo-intellectuals, They are a perfect example of the Dunning-Kruger effect.

A Tone Pot will work the same way as a Volume Pot, but just a little different. Instead of sending the entire signal to ground, the tone cap helps by sending only a part of the signal to ground. Tone caps only let high frequencies pass through it …

Audio or linear taper pots? What’s the difference ...

    https://www.hoaglandcustom.com/2017/05/15/hello-world/
An AUDIO taper pot increases the signal from your guitar to your amp in a logarithmic (exponential) fashion. Simply explained, “1”, “2”, or “3” on the volume knob will produce little, if any, signal but once you get past “3” or so, the volume will ramp up a LOT. Past “8” or so there will be very little volume increase.

JT, I put 4 bourns Audio taper 500 tone n volume pots in my Faded special Sg with 50's wiring and a .022 and . 015 cap in. My preference is for my volume pots to start at 0 and when I roll em on like for swelling, they roll evenly. Like basically 0-2 is 0 to beginning to hear sound and from2-6 gets louder n 6-10 brings it on.

Tone Pots: Linear or Audio? Why? - Music Electronics Forum

The ear hears volume in a logarithmic fashion, so you would use a log pot for volume. I still could not understand why anybody would use anything but a linear pot for tone.

Re: Taper for tone pots The traditional wisdom has always been audio taper pots for volume and tone, but i question that wisdom. Almost every electric guitar i have played has a 'lump' in the operation, where the volume control usually has most of the volume action happening between 7 and 10 on the dial, and most tone controls have a lump where all the action happens like a …

Audio or Linear taper tone pots?? | Gretsch-Talk Forum

AFAIK tone pots should be linear taper. Audio taper is logarithmic with fast, coarse adjustment at one end and slow, very fine at the other. Linear taper pots should roll off the highs in an even, more controllable way. I'm wondering because a number of vendors recommend their CTS audio taper pots for both volume and tone.
