Thus, audio tapers are potentiometers that are log tapers. This is the key separation from linear tapers. Characteristics Curves. The characteristic curves for linear and audio (log) tapers are shown below: You can see the direct relationship that linear tapers have, while you see the parabolic relationship that audio (log) tapers have.

A 15% audio curve would measure 15% of the total resistance of the potentiometer when the shaft is at the midpoint. If the shaft has a slot in it, then simply line up the slot with the center terminal of the potentiometer for the midpoint of the rotation. Most off-shore manufacturers use a 15% audio taper for their audio taper designs.

The taper defines how the resistance of the pot changes inrelationship to turning the shaft. Linear Taper: The simplest form. The rotation of the knob directly corresponds to the resistance change in linear fashion. Audio/Logarithmic Taper: This taper compensates for how the human ear perceives changes in volume. It has a different curve--the ...

Standard "audio taper" potentiometers seem to all have a resistance taper curve of 10% at 50% rotation. Are there any readily available options that are configured at lower-than-10% @ 50%? In other words, more gradual in the first half of rotation, more abrupt in the second half -- the opposite of what a linear or reverse log taper would accomplish.

The violet curve in Figure 4 shows an antilog or reverse audio taper pot. These are quite uncommon, but used to be used for balance controls using a log/antilog dual section (commonly called dual gang) pot. It is shown on the graph mainly for its interest value, but they are generally an historical component now. ...

the dimarzios are i think 15% taper while a lot of the fancier "vintage taper" or "super" audio pots are even flatter, like 20% or even 30%. that bigger number means they turn down more slowly from "10". (linear taper pots are by definition 50% and you have to turn them way down to get any kind of clean-up).
