I had a similar problem with similar hardware (Audigy 2) after XP SP3. It appears to be a common problem with many (if not most) sound cards. For me, installing fresh drivers (automatically or manually) resulted in sound until the next restart...then, during that restart, sound would cut off halfway through the opening wave file.
