This is review of Audio Research CD3 (not in data base). It is the first top loader from ARC. It is really first class player. Very detailed and clean sound. Right out of the box it sounds a little hard, but after few days it sounds sweet. If you are considering Audio research with Thiels you should use not bright cables.

The CD2 has low noise and exceptionally gentle filtering. The Crystal chip comes with digital de-emphasis that is much better-sounding than most analog de-emphasis we've experimented with. We design our own analog filter—also very gentle. "We look for good numbers, but we develop everything on the basis of listening tests.

Audio Research CD2 CD Player by Marc Mickelson Review at a Glance Sound Impressive bass and retrieval of low-level detail, but most notable for its balance -- "the Switzerland of CD players -- forever neutral." Features Basic in terms of features; power cord that comes with the player sounds very good. Use

humble opinion, the CD2 is more musical. In summary, the CD2 is a fine CD player, but certainly not one of the four best players currently available. [Sep 10, 1999] claudia vichi an Audio Enthusiast The best cd player of the moment with the Ml 39 (too expensive). Great clearity, deep bass and soundstage. I forgot the vinil!!! [Sep 10, 2000]

From the start, the CD2 sounded warm, big-boned, and inviting. Oh, the sound bloomed and steadily grew more refined and relaxed over the next several hours, but it sounded like a sweetheart from the git-go. Listening to the CD2 was never a chore. This isn't a CD player from the "shine a 500W light on everything" school of over-illumination.

Audio Research CDT-1 vs CD-2 as transport. I have an Audio Research CDT-1 cd transport. I love the sound but the unit will not pass HDCD signals to my D/A converter. I called A.R. and they confirmed that the newer version of the CDT-1 will not pass the HDCD signal. They informed me that I would need to purchase a CD-2 which will accommodate the ...

Audio Research CD3 MKII CD Players. Very detailed and natural sounding, good ergonomics, I love the simple, straightforward Philips transport. I've had this unit for almost 2 years now. As I've continued to upgrade my system, the sound improves by leaps and bounds. When I first bought it, I was also using a Sony 333ES SACD player.

The Audio Research CD6 SE is also the first top-loading CD player I’ve ever used. (It uses the Philips Pro2 transport, by the way.) I know, it seems weird but it’s true. I made the mistake of putting the CD6 SE in the middle shelf of my Fern & Roby rack, and while there was sufficient space above this fairly large player, I found it ...
Review: Audio Research Reference CD-7 CD Player
https://forum.audiogon.com/discussions/review-audio-research-reference-cd-7-cd-player
I have now made the progression through Audio Research cd players. I started with the CD-1. Then the CD-2. Next came the CD-3 Mk II. At each step along the way, there were marked improvements soundstaging, realism, low level detail. Most recently, I upgraded to the ARC Reference CD-7. While the others were measured steps in improvements, this ...
Audio Research CD-1 CD player | Stereophile.com
https://www.stereophile.com/cdplayers/1295ar/index.html
The CD-1 is built like a tank: it weighs 17 lbs and feels as durable as an anvil. Audio Research's heavy faceplate and massive handles serve to reinforce that effect. Though built upon a Philips chassis, the CD-1's source is essentially …
