This review is for Audio Research D-300. This model came out in the same year as D-400mkII. It've amazed me how sweet the sound is for a solid state amp. The only different between this amp and the big bother D-400mkII is the wattage. Sonically, this amp produced very tight bass, sweet mid, and very detailed high.

I've been running two ARC D400mkII amps in a vertically biamped configuration for a number of years now with truly wonderful results. It's a low global feedback design with class-A biasing to approximately 25wpc. One awesome feature is a separate tranny for the input stage. Dynamics (macro and micro) are two strong suits of this amp.

Jeff, These are all discontinued amplifiers, but I think there are a few Audio Research models that are worth considering: 100.2, D200/300/400 and the D130. The 100.2 (100W @ 8, 200W@4, 1998-2003) is among the best solid state amplifers I've heard in recent history- clean, dynamic, great imaging, natural timbre and detail.

This was a nice series of ARC amplifiers, D200-300-400, differing in output power and number of output devices. Very well built. Parameters are as good as not to make audible distortion, so though they would not excel in Amir's SINAD chart, distortion is inaudible. Amplifiers were very good sounding and capable to drive difficult loads.

I drive my Magneplanar Tympani IV bass panels, which have an impedance of 4 ohms, and the amplifier puts out 400 watts per channel with this load. Transient response is stunning and provides awesome
