The ARC D-130 in my opinion still remains one of the best audio buys around. As the other reviews here point out, there are better amps around, but at much higher prices than this one. On the used market this amp goes for somewhere between $900 & $1,100.

I selected the Audio Research D130 after the amp I was originally going to listen to (VT60) was out on loan by the dealer, so he suggested I try this instead. The D130 complements the rest of the system beautifully (Theta Pearl/ProGeny, ARC LS8 and ProAc Response 2.5) This was what was needed to bring everything alive.

Jeff, These are all discontinued amplifiers, but I think there are a few Audio Research models that are worth considering: 100.2, D200/300/400 and the D130. The 100.2 (100W @ 8, 200W@4, 1998-2003) is among the best solid state amplifers I've heard in recent history- clean, dynamic, great imaging, natural timbre and detail.

These are much bigger physically with what appears to be the basic ARC philosophy - tons of capacitance but with an unusual added sophisiticated METERS section. I just tried to buy a D-120, but it was DOA. I paid $350 for a well used D-100B and was going to pay $400 for the D-120. I'll do some research.
