The mids are pure tube- elegant, rich and liquid with just a hint of that "romantic sound" that I hear some reviewers talk about old tube gear having. The top end is clean, with just a hint of fuzz (this was reduced with new output tubes, and re biasing, but is a symptom of the design). Weakness: Heat and weight.

If it can be repaired properly for reasonable and the speakers, too, that gear was well bought. You might want a whole lot more solid state power for the Tympani 1a but the D76 could be a center piece of a very nice tube system. Blue Shadow, Jan 5, 2013. #5.
