If the LS-1 is anything like the 2, tube rolling could make a difference. I don't know what tube is in your amp now, but to my ears an ECC288 like a Philips or Siemens will make a big improvement. Perhaps you can fiddle around with tubes a bit before getting rid of the AR. Satch, Apr 18, 2008. #2.

This preamp is extremely neutral and it's sound will be dependent on the equipment that it is used with. A previous reviewer mentioned that this preamp's weakness was that it "could extend the decays a bit". When I first got the preamp, I agreed with that. I don't agree any longer.
