Well, If the LS15 gets 10 reviews, all fives, it will get into the HALL OF FAME WHERE IT BELONGS, so I shamelessly appoint myself the "decider". I've been an unrelenting audiophile for 20 years, and haven't heard any equipment that can make music come alive like Audio Research can, at an almost reasonable price.

I´m looking for advice about an Audio Research LS15 how it sound and possible match to my speakers JBL ti 250 (first model) I like a big soundstage and a lot of dynamics and no edgy top. i know my ti can be some hard in the top. Is this a good preamplifier for my taste. This in black and I really like the way it looks.

Audio Research LS15 vs. SP14 I’m not sure about the production date for these preamps but they seem to be within the same price range in the used market, basically within a $1200-$1500. All things being equal, which one do you folks prefer in terms of sound quality.

LS15 is worth around $1500. SP17 has a bit warmer sound, a little quieter and a bit more layered soundstage. LS17 is more a reference neutral preamp with more frequency extension on the bass and treble, more attack, lower noise, bigger soundstage. Quite a bit better than the LS15. LS26 is one of the best preamps you will ever hear.

If the LS-1 is anything like the 2, tube rolling could make a difference. I don't know what tube is in your amp now, but to my ears an ECC288 like a Philips or Siemens will make a big improvement. Perhaps you can fiddle around with tubes a bit before getting rid of the AR. Satch, Apr 18, 2008. #2.

been able to find a new pre-amp that was worth buying because the improvement in sound was not worth the money. After listening to the Bryston, Mark Levenson, Krell, and Audio Research LS9 and LS3 (all solid state) I was ready to give up again. Then the dealer said to try Vacuum tube amps. So I listened to a LS15 and could not believe my ears!
