The all-tubed LS5 was outstanding at presenting instrumental timbre without grain or etch. This contributed to the LS5's less analytical-sounding rendering. Despite being smoother, more relaxed, and less up-front in the treble, the LS5 revealed a full measure of musical detail. I also liked the LS5's more laid-back perspective.

Just bought a Audio Research LS5 MKII preamp which as you probably all know fully balanced configured from input to output. Consistency (and cost) dictated around 1995 when many highend audio firms adopted the balanced setup, that one could skip cinch/RCA connectors all together, at least AR did so on my LS5 MKII.
