That said, the SP4 sounds amazingly good. It is more forward than the SP6E, and has a slightly warmer signature. soundstage/imaging is superb, but not quite at the same level as the SP6E (which is one of the very best preamps ever made IMHO). In comparison to the Carver C-4000t, the SP4 is clearly more musical, and just better overall.

If you make it really nice that could be an upgrade folks might be interested in if they still have an SP-4. I think it would be cool to have a nice sounding slim line ARC preamp full-featured, grounded outlets and three phono inputs. Nice unit, too bad the sound quality is early transistor. Keep us posted.
