Background. In their early years Audio Research built the ARC ST-70-C3 as a kit for the legendary Dynaco ST-70 and later as a factory mod. They completely did away with the factory Dynaco circuitry in the ST-70, using only the chassis and transformers from the original amplifier – the result was a stellar amplifier unique in tube amp history.

Re: Using 6L6 on Dynaco ST-70 ? - Joe Rosen - Audio Asylum
https://www.audioasylum.com/messages/vintage/16181/re-using-6l6-on-dynaco-st-70
What Bill Johnson of ARC basically did was come up with a mod whereby you could convert a Dynaco ST70 into an Audio Research "D" series amplifier of somewhat lower power. The D-76 was a big, sloppy, thick & opaque bag'o'dirt, and the ST70-C-3 mod does pretty much the same thing to a Stereo 70.
