This is not a review for Conrad Johnson just a logical illustration of the slight faults of the the Audio Research VT100 MKII. I truly enjoyed this amp and borrowed it with intent of making it an addition to my ever changing system; this will not happen.

The mk 2 and mk3 sound a little bit different. But I would not say there is a big difference. The mk3 is a little more detailed but maybe not quite as lush. The mk2 uses 6922 tubes while the mk3 uses 6h30 tubes. My choice was the mk3. But both the VT100 mk2 and mk3 are great amps and pretty much a bargain at the price the used ones are going for.

After having a VT100 which I bought used, I upgraded to a MKIII, which is a much better amp. The 6H30 tubes hold up much better than 6922 tubes for an amplifier. You also have four bias testers so each pair of power tubes can be biased. Like MKII it has a fan, but also has a switch for single ended and balanced inputs which the MKII does not have.
