Audio-Technica AT-OC9ML/II Phono Cartridge - Sound Hi Fi
http://www.soundhifi.com/vinyl.htm
While the AT-OC9ML/II would be perfect in a system that's warm and rich, I’d recommend giving it a listen no matter the sound of your system. It’s that good. The moving-magnet AT150MLX For those of you who don't have the capability to use a low-output moving coil cartridge, Audio-Technica hasn’t left you out in the cold.

The AT-OC9ML/II is a squarish, metal-bodied It weighs in at a reasonable 8 grams. half-inch, and it should be compatible with most medium-mass tonearms. The cartridge body does not have threaded mounting screw holes, so beware mounting it with those small, easily lost nuts. The stylus is what Audio-Technica calls a "Nude Square Shank

Tracking ability, capability of extruding amazing levels of detail, a relaxed presentation and a relatively low -the vinyl will love the OC9- tracking-force of 1,5 grams are the cartridge's strong points. The difference this cartridge makes over my -very- old Dynavector Karat Ruby 23, the Mk.I version so to say; is definitely substantial.

For review, the AT-OC9XSH was fitted to an SME 309 arm on a Michell Gyro SE turntable and plugged into an Anatek MC-1 phono stage, providing a fixed 100ohm load. This fed my Naim Supernait amp and PMC Twenty5.24 speakers [HFN May '17]. Trump Card Before cueing up the newcomer, I spent a few hours re-acquainting myself with my own AT-OC9ML/II.

Its overall perspective is a bit laid-back. But the sound of the OC9 might best be characterized by comparison with the van den Hul and the Krell. In the low end the Audio-Technica falls between the slight warmth of the van den Hul MC-One and the tightness of the Krell. The OC9 is neutral through the important midrange.

I have the OC9 mLII on my TD-160/SME M2-9. I don't find it bright at all. Very sensitive to set up and loading. I run mine at 100 ohms and it sounds very balanced top to bottom. I will say this. It sounds better through an SUT as opposed to straight into the phono stage.

In essence, the OC9 is an excellent daily driver, with a great balance of dynamics and detail retrieval. If this cartridge is lacking anywhere, it might be in ultimate bass tautness and control, but this is more a personal preference than an overall judgment.
