Strange thing about this turntable is that there is no ground on the outlet plug, so even though the room is grounded it's not grounding through the plug. Also, there is no place to connect a ground wire from a mixer to the back of the unit. I have the pl120 connected directly to a phono input of my sampler, so I am not using the preamp.

It's a new Audio-Technica PL120 with built in preamp. There was no ground wire with the turntable. The hum is the type I used to get years ago when the ground wire failed with older turntables. The playback levels are the same at the same amp volume setting in both 'Phono' and 'Line' modes, so it appears the turned on electronics in the LP120 are inducing a low level hum in the phono cables. I can find no ground point on the LP120, and in any case the symptoms suggest the hum is induced inside the LP120 and not due to ground loops.
