The ATH-A900 are very decent headphones. However they do have a metallic edge to their sound. The bass has great impact thanks to the DADS technology borrowed from its higher-end siblings. The ATH-A900 is similar to the higher Audio Technicas in house sound, however the ATH-W2002, and ATH-W1000 are a significant step up.

They exceed the AKG K240MkII in every way (unless weight is a concern) and seem to be a more robust, well-rounded, and quality listening phone than the ATH-M50. To my ears, they produce sound in the way I expect (see first paragraph), but have such a great range they seem to do any genre well.
