I have the ATH-M50 and the ATH-M40x. The M40x wins hands down. The M50 has great and rich bass, but it's just too much and drowns out the rest of the music. The 40x is well-balanced across the frequency spectrum. It sounds a bit flat, but as a cheap reference, it's fantastic. jlykos, Nov 1, 2018. #7.

Senn 595 - Open headphone. Super comfortable, accurate sound. I find them to be very boring and neutral, though. Bass is lacking. ATH-M50 - Closed headphone. Decent bang-for-the-buck, but very fatiguing. These headphones are known for their big bass. IMO, the highs are way too piercing, and the mids are severely lacking.
