Audio-Technica ATH-M50 Stereo Headphone Review by …

One example is soundstage - the M50's seems to be significantly less than the Shure 940 which is a comparable closed headphone, but I suspect that the frequency response or signature is contributing to that impression, so it's not a clear-cut thing in my view. The ATH-M50 is a circumaural (around the ear) closed-back headphone.

So I recently picked up the ATH-M50x, and I'm extremely happy with them. However, I'd like to hear an "audiphile's" opinion on these headphones. How is the soundstage, and is the overall quality considered good? I play my music through Foobar2000, WASAPI, and a Denon PMA-480R amp (I think it's an...

Audio-Technica is one of those companies that has earned the respect of the audio world, and one of its most popular products is the ATH-M50x headphones. This headset went viral several years ago and, as is the case with all great headphones that have a 3.5mm connector, is still going strong.

The audio Technica ATH-M50X is a good headphone to listen to bassy music. However, I do not think they are studio quality. Soundstage is good and the high's are quite accurate. Mid's are ruined by the overpowering bass. The earpads are an awkward shape and can be very uncomfortable. Better alternatives exist.

The Audio-Technica ATH-M50x and the Philips SHP9500 are both very good headphones for fans of a neutral sound, but they use different enclosures, which changes a couple of things. The closed-back design of the Audio-Technica results in better noise isolation and punchier bass, but makes the headphones sound more closed-off.

If you are into Audio Technica then you could also have a chop at the AD700 which I find nearly on par with the 598s. 2. Share. Report Save. level 1. 5 years ago. The one time I feel I've been cheated by the reviews. The m50x is completely overrated.

- Audio Technica's very own ATH-MX40's (almost £50 cheaper than these pieces of garbage). - Sivga 006's (beautiful well built closed-back headphones). - Superlux HD668B (amazing super budget open-back headphones, especially if you swap the pads). - Koss KSC75's (£15 earclips that still sound a 100 times better than the ATH-M50X's).
ATH M50's Surround Sound Possible? - Audio - Linus …
https://linustechtips.com/topic/132545-ath-m50s-surround-sound-possible/
To the best of my knowledge, it's not technically possible because the ATH-M50s aren't designed with virtual surround sound. Not that they need to be; you could use the "Headphones" option in the audio settings in games in order to make them sound like surround sound. The M50s aren't great at that though, because of their limited soundstage.
