The ATM31 is a vocal condenser microphone with a fixed-charge electret capsule. It requires the use of a 1.5V “AA” battery, which fits into the 21mm shaft of the microphone body (where it would reportedly last for several thousand hours of usage). The electret capsule is a small-diaphragm design with a 4-micron, low-mass diaphragm.

Audio Technica ATM-31, any opinions about this. I know A T is a great brand but this mic is maybe more for performance than recording? Any thoughts? (Im asking cus I can get one cheap n´used) M. mixsit Well-known member. Apr 16, 2002 #2 I still have the old battery ones- (10 or more years old?). As I recall, they could overload on a close vocal.
