The VTVM's claim to fame is the high input impedance and ability to measure voltage with out loading down the circuit. This is critical in measuring RF and Audio signals. With out affecting the circuit too much, the reading is actually better than some modern DMM (due to sample rates). They also are can read very high freq AC voltage (RF, audio).
