So you may know this already but the 2245 is 45 watts per channel but puts out more like 55, so to play 3db louder you would have to go to around 100 watts per channel and then for 6db louder you are now at 200 watts per channel.

the 2245 is for sure worth restoring but it sounds like yours probably only needs the pots and switches cleaned pretty common, they build up dirt over time and channels start dropping out. you can probably do it yourself here is a thread about it you can look at.

I finally did it. I picked up a 2245 and case from the original owners widow. Haven’t had time to really do anything with it, but it does power up and is in very good cosmetic shape. Can’t wait to get it hooked up and see what the marantz sound is like. I’m sure it will be different than the Yamaha sound I have become accustomed to.

On my marantz 2245, i have no sound on right channel. The dc offset is stuck at 500 mv and no bias. After about 45 mins or and hour the dc offset goes down to 10 mv. The sound comes back. And today the opposite channel does the exact same thing. But the other channel works. Any help thanks!!

Comparing a 2245 to the PM6004 is a fair contest and while the PM6004 may edge out the 2245 because of its newness, it doesn't have the cool factor of a vintage receiver. Comparing the Yamaha to the Marantz seems like a mismatch due to the Yamaha's output which is almost double the Marantz

The 2245 is considered one of Marantz better sounding receivers. I own one and can say it does sound very good indeed. I have it playing through JBL-L40's and mostly listen to heavy rock on it. If you would like more opinions, check out audiokarma.org and do a search, you will find that the 2245 is highly praised there. Get it. JRF, Mar 6, 2009 #2

Audiophyte. Dec 21, 2014. #1. I am attempting to build a proper vintage system in my normal sized living room with quite high ceilings. After weeks of research, I've elected the Marantz 2245 as my foundation. I have a turntable and will be playing CD's and, only when absolutely necessary, some audio files. I like volume but prefer clarity.
