Having owned the Audiolab 8000A series III for a number of years I can give, I hope, a reasonably accurate account of it. I bought it at the time for its accuracy - being partnered with a mildly warm Philips CD850 and mildly forward Tannoy 613's. In reality, it is mildly coloured. Mid range is slightly forward and hi treble is rolled back.

The Audiolab has the edge in fast paced music with plenty of dynamics. All in all, even till this day I rate the Audiolab 8000a highly! My model is the 8000a mkII and was purchased back in 1993. Quality well designed amp with a good phono stage. These have been in production through the 80's and until 97 when Audiolab was bought by TAG McLaren. My one was a mid 90's model and easily outstripped the NAD 3130 it replaced. Sound is dynamic and punchy although the high end can get harsh, but only if pushed too hard.

Hi, before I had the Tag Pre10, I had an 8000a (1996 model)which after a couple of years I added the 8000px (which is bassically the last 8000p) to. The 8000a can operate as a pre, power or integrated amp and you can bi-amp with an 8000a/p. Although the power rating is different (60W vs 100W) the signal gain is the same.
