The 8000A has pre out and power in jacks and can be used as a pre or a power amp. To be used as a preamp, simply connect to a power amp. The pre and power sections are connected internally. Having owned the Audiolab 8000A series III for a number of years I can give, I hope, a reasonably accurate account of it. I bought it at the time for its accuracy - being partnered with a mildly warm Philips CD850 and mildly forward Tannoy 613's. In reality, it is mildly coloured. Mid range is slightly forward and hi treble is rolled back.
