The Audiolab 8000CD is a great player...when it is working. It retrieves everything from the disc and produces a lean detailed sound. Certainly, flaws in the CD recording process shows up when inferior discs are played through this player. Unfortunately though my 8000CD has been inoperable for the last two of the three months that I have owned it.

Audiolab 8300CDQ Review. Despite costing only a few hundred pounds more than its predecessor, the 2019 8300CDQ was sleeker and more complex in terms of build, finish, and functionality plus it had MQA, which Audiolab thought was a useful new feature. This should help the player remain future-proof, but DSD playback, which is finally gaining traction among …

Audiolab 8200CD Verdict. Before being knocked off the top spot by the Naim CD5si last summer, the 8200CD outshone all other players in – and in some cases, above – its price range for years. And it remains a superb player. For £800 we still think you won’t get anything better.
Audiolab 6000CDT - Hi-Fi Choice

Audiolab says its power consumption is 15W in use, and less than 0.5W in standby mode. It loads discs smoothly, isn’t noisy while doing so, and then reads the CD’s table of contents speedily. This done, it offers swift track access – maybe not quite up there with a top-class nineties Sony player, for example, but way better than many modern rivals.

The only issue with picking up CD’s from the bin at Goodwill are the inevitable scratches you encounter on the discs. The 6000CDT uses the same advanced slot-loaded mechanism as Audiolab’s upscale 8300CD CD player. That, combined with a read-ahead digital buffer, is supposed to be able to read damaged discs better than other CD transports.

Thankfully, the Audiolab removes this sort of palaver. It’s firm, solid and works as it should. Which is a big relief. Better still, in operation, the transport uses built-in memory that reads ahead to reduce errors. The thorny issue of jitter is also addressed by Audiolab. Jitter is an odd thing – it sounds odd too.
