The Audiomat 1.5 falls halfway between a MOSFET phonostage like a Vendetta Research and a vacuum tube phonostage like a Herron. in terms of sound quality. The original, captive power cable has been replaced with a custom in-line IEC socket to allow the use of audiophile-quality AC power cables. Please feel free to ask me any questions.

This tiny phono is designed and built by Albert Lukaschek, the same guy that manufacturers the Benz Micro line of cartridges. I have heard this phono, and for its price (and size!) it is amazing. If you audition it, check your system phase. Last time I listened to one, it was phase inverting. Best luck! john_l 782 posts 12-27-2000 1:38pm

At $990, the Audiomat Phono 1 finds itself in a very competitive market, flanked on one side by the less expensive offerings from Creek, and on the other by the Black Cube, EAR 834P (review forthcoming), Blue Circle BC23, The Groove by Tom Evans, etc…

Audiomat Phono - Mutine

Unlike the earlier Audiomat phono preamps, this one is not a replacement for the previous one, but an extension to the line. It did not sound as good as the Audiomat Phono 1.5 had in the same position. It sounded a little bit bright and a little harsh. For $189, it sounded really wonderful, and much better than I would expect one would find in the standard AV receiver (if they had phono stages).
