The m1 was a stronger amp then the M1a. 5% is about the minimum level most bass heads run their amps at and is inaudiable and is considered a "soft" clipp. The actual THD @ 1470 is closer to 3% THD but I rounded up to be on the safe side.

I've owned my AQ1200D for over 3 years now, and have never had any issues with overheating or clipping. From what you described, the AQ1200D is dead. A burnt smell is not a good sign at all. On your next Amplifier, don't use a Bass Knob, and actually set the Gain on the Amplifier correctly.
